Notice to Guardians:  August 13, 2008
This court wishes to inform you that many single individuals under guardianship may be eligible to receive a $300.00 federal economic stimulus check.  Married couples are eligible for a $600.00 check.  There are approximately 7,000 Lucas County residents who are eligible for the benefit but who have not applied to receive this benefit.  This court believes this includes many individuals under guardianship who normally do not file an income tax return.  

To make an application for the benefit, a federal tax return form 1040A must be filed and the individual must have at least $3000.00 in qualifying income.  Social Security disability and retirement benefits and VA payments are considered qualifying income for this program; however, Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI) is not considered qualifying income.  

Additional information and the necessary forms to make an application are available at www.irs.gov.  The United Way of Greater Toledo, the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, and the Lucas County Veterans Services Commission are working to help residents get their stimulus checks.
